Thermal analysis of postcured aramid fiber/epoxy composites

Abstract In this study, aramid fiber-reinforced polymer (AFRP) composites were prepared and then postcured under specific heating/cooling rates. By dynamic mechanical analysis, the viscoelastic properties of AFRP at elevated temperatures various frequencies determined. Thermomechanical analysis (TMA), in modes creep-recovery stress–relaxation tests, was also performed. Furthermore, differential scanning calorimetry used, decomposition composites, fibers, pure epoxy, two different atmospheres, namely, air atmosphere nitrogen (N 2 ) atmosphere, explored by thermogravimetric (TGA). From point view, fibers showed remarkably thermal resistance, N volume fraction (? f calculated to be ? = 51%. TGA experiments, very good both characteristic conjunction with their relatively high T g , which is range 85–95°C, depending on frequency determination method, classifies these as potential materials applications where resistance a required characteristic.
